O.F.C — Optical Fibre Cable Work

Optical fibre laying, ducting, splicing and testing for plant communication, SCADA, CCTV and campus networks — run alongside the power infrastructure by the same team.

LIU / PATCH PANEL HDPE DUCT SPLICE 1 SPLICE 2 SLACK LOOP OTDR TRACE LOSS dB DISTANCE SPLICE LOSS SPLICE LOSS EVERY JOINT COSTS BUDGET · THE TRACE IS THE PROOF

The link above, and the proof below. Every splice takes a step out of the loss budget, and the OTDR trace is the only honest record of where those steps are — a port coming up green says nothing about how much margin is left.

The Work

Every modern electrical installation carries a data layer with it: SCADA links between substations, energy meters reporting back to a plant server, CCTV over a campus, PLC and drive networks across a shop floor. Optical fibre is what carries it where copper cannot — long runs, electrically noisy environments and anywhere galvanic isolation between buildings matters.

Because the fibre usually follows the same trench, tray and pole route as the power cable, it makes sense for one contractor to plan both. We lay armoured or duct-carried OFC, blow or pull through HDPE, splice by fusion, terminate into LIU / patch panels, and hand over an OTDR trace for every link rather than just a working light.

Scope Covered

  • Armoured OFC laying in trench, tray, duct and along overhead routes
  • HDPE duct laying, blowing and pull-through
  • Fusion splicing, splice enclosures and loop management
  • LIU / FDMS termination, pigtails and patch cords
  • OTDR testing, power meter readings and link documentation
  • Route marking, fibre schedule and as-laid records

Why It Matters

Where This Work
Decides The Outcome

Fibre is immune to the noise power creates

Copper data runs beside HT cable, drives and welding sets pick up interference and drop packets in ways that are hard to trace. Fibre carries no current and picks up none of it, which is why it is the default for links between substations and buildings.

The loss budget is the whole job

A fibre link either meets its loss budget or it works today and fails at the first temperature swing. Splice loss, connector loss and bend loss add up, and the only honest way to prove a link is an OTDR trace — not the fact that the port came up green.

Laid with the power run, or laid twice

Fibre pulled into the same trench or tray at the same time costs a fraction of what it costs to add later. Planning the data route while the power route is still open is the cheapest decision on the project.

How We Execute

Survey To Handover

01

Route & link plan

Link ends, fibre count and route fixed against the power route, with spare cores and slack loops planned in.

02

Duct & lay

HDPE duct laid or tray route prepared, cable blown or pulled within tension and bend-radius limits.

03

Splice & terminate

Fusion splices made in enclosures, pigtails terminated into LIU / patch panels, cores identified and labelled.

04

Test & document

OTDR trace and power meter reading recorded per link, fibre schedule and as-laid route handed over.
